Supplies That Are Worth More Than Gold During a Disaster

When disaster strikes, your shiny American Express card will be useless, your checks won’t be good for much besides tinder, and gold, though valuable, won’t be something most people are interested in.

Supplies that can help someone survive, or even make them a little more comfortable, however, will be incredibly valuable. Fortunately, most of the supplies that carry the most value as barter items are relatively small and have a virtually unlimited shelf-life.

Here are some supplies you should stock up on as barter items. If you’re ever faced with a disaster, you can use most of these items yourself, but if you have a surplus, you’ll be able to trade for other goods or services.

Great list… One other item I have & would add falls under your “fishing items” but is a “casting net”… Fairly inexpensive and not dependent on the fish/etc biting.

  2. Seems a bit odd that firearms and ammunition are not mention as well as hunting hear of all types.
Bows and hunting arrows are reusable and .22 ammo is great for hunting small games. I also suspect that .22 ammo will be much more valuable than gold if the bubble ever goes up.
Also some good shotgun rounds for both hunting and self defense.
