I finally got around to watching these two videos from The Patriot Nurse. They’re about survival for pregnant women. My wife is not pregnant and we don’t have any small children, so it didn’t seem like a priority. However, we’ve talked about having a child. We could continue to wait until after the economy collapses and recovers, but no one knows how long this train wreck could last or how long the recovery might take. And people have raised happy families in difficult times before. Unless you know for a fact that the end of the world is imminent, I see no reason to delay having children. You could wake up an old person and realize you waited for nothing. Having said that, if you are thinking of having children you’ll have to know how to care for pregnant women and babies if the SHTF. These videos will get you started :
Someone pointed out that I haven’t made many posts about gardening, so I want to share a few videos from TuxsRams that cover some of the most common vegetables you can grow on a patio or balcony and what types of containers to put them in. The second and third videos show the results of his work. This a great introduction for anyone interested in balcony gardening.
Powdered foods are a great option for people who want to store a lot of food but don’t have much space. As long as you have a reliable source of drinking water or a way to purify rain or river water, you’ll be in good shape. Below are what I consider some essential foods that are available in powdered form.
The Food and Drug Administration has been forced to suspend all routine food safety inspections for the duration of the government shutdown, FDA spokesman Steven Immergut confirmed to The Huffington Post on Friday afternoon. Until funding is restored, the FDA will be inspecting only those facilities that it has cause to believe “present an immediate threat to public health.”
There’s a lot of scary Halloween programming this month, but a new Weather Channel series might be the most frightening of all. “The Tipping Points: 6 Places on Earth Where Climate’s Changed” is scary because it’s real, showing what global warming will do to the planet if it proceeds at the current rate — starting with the Amazon rain forest, where drought, fires, changes in carbon dioxide, and loss of biodiversity due to climate change are converging with disastrous consequences.
America may be on the verge of a catastrophic default on its national debt. There would be no real reason for this default — it can easily be avoided, and is only being considered because our politicians, particularly Republicans in Washington, have gone insane. So what should you do, in the meantime, to prepare yourself?
Have you ever read the labels on your household and beauty products? Even the “natural” stuff often contains a long list of ingredients that are nearly impossible to pronounce, let alone identify. In addition, many of these products can get expensive. Whether you are concerned about the expense, the ingredients or what you will do in the event that stuff hits the fan, there’s never been a better time to get back to basics. Rather than succumbing to the status quo and buying these products off the shelf every month, many people are choosing to make their own products. These homemade soaps, lotions and detergents are cheap and easy to make at home and require only simple, healthy ingredients that are easy to tailor to your own needs.
I am not an enthusiastic cucumber pickle eater. I pretty much like two kinds: bread-and-butter pickles made into a relish to eat with hamburgers and hot dogs and little sour cornichons to eat with pâté. However, there are many dishes I eat that call for vinegar, as in sausages with cauliflower, and so there was a certain logic in preparing pickled cauliflower: Having it on hand meant that instead of adding vinegar when cooking the sausages and then blanching the cauliflower and adding it as well, I could simply dump the contents of my jar over the browned sausage and be done.
Based on what happened at the Boston Marathon and Texas Fertilizer Plant, you never know when you may be called upon to administer first aid. Both are rare occurrences but illustrate the need to know urgent emergency care and how it saves lives.
This article intends to educate you on the value to taking first aid classes. To do that I will be reviewing the fundamentals of first aid, review a couple first aid treatment modalities you will learn, and direct you toward resources to take first classes and review the levels of training available to you.
